You are an operator of a recreational drone

  • If:

    • Not used for commercial purposes


    You must:

    • Abide by the ‘Regolamento Mezzi Aerei a Pilotaggio Remoto’
    • Only use manual flight control
    • Keep your drone within line of sight and not endanger people
    • Have private liability coverage

    You must not:

    • Operate in clouds, above crowds, industrial sites, urban areas and other restricted areas or impede manned aircraft
    • Fly above 150 meters


You are an operator of a model aircraft

  • If:

    • Not used for commercial purposes


    You must:

    • Abide by the ‘Regolamento Mezzi Aerei a Pilotaggio Remoto’
    • Only use manual flight control
    • Keep your drone within line of sight and not endanger people
    • Have private liability coverage


    You must not:

    • Operate in clouds, above crowds, industrial sites, urban areas and other restricted areas or impede manned aircraft
    • Fly above 150 meters

You are an operator of a professional drone

  • If:

    • Used for commercial purposes in connection with a business activity
    • Any drone activity taking place at night will is considered a professional drone activity.


    You must:

    • Abide by the ‘Regolamento Mezzi Aerei a Pilotaggio Remoto’
    • Pass theoritical and practical exams
    • Register your drone online (here) Have an identity plate, identification number  and electronic chip
    • Be 18 or older to operate drone
    • Have a liability coverage up to 1million €
    • Have maintenance and operation documents with you while flying

    You must not:

    • Operate a drone weighting more than 25 kg unless authorised

    • Impede manned aircraft or fly in restricted areas

    • Fly above 150 meters
