You are an operator of a recreational drone

  • If:

    • Not used for commercial purposes


    You must:

    • Register a drone weighing more than 1kg on the ASSET drone registry
    • Register any drone over 25kg with the CAA
    • Get permission from the property owner before flying over private property


    You must not:

    • Fly your drone outside your line of sight (BVLOS)
    • Fly over a group of people (12 persons)
    • Fly your drones more than 300m away from you
    • Fly 120m above ground level
    • Fly over urban areas
    • Fly closer than 5km to an aerodrome
    • Fly within 30m of any person
    • Fly in civil or controlled airspace
    • Fly in restricted areas (prisons, military basis, etc.)
    • Fly over property unless authorised by the owner


You are an operator of a model aircraft

  • If:

    • Not used for commercial purposes


    You must:

    • Register a drone weighing more than 1kg on the ASSET drone registry
    • Register any drone over 25kg with the CAA
    • Get permission from the property owner before flying over private property


    You must not:

    • Fly your drone outside your line of sight (BVLOS)
    • Fly over a group of people (12 persons)
    • Fly your drones more than 300m away from you
    • Fly 120m above ground level
    • Fly over urban areas
    • Fly closer than 5km to an aerodrome
    • Fly within 30m of any person
    • Fly in civil or controlled airspace
    • Fly in restricted areas (prisons, military basis, etc.)
    • Fly over property unless authorised by the owner

You are an operator of a professional drone

  • If:

    • Used for commercial purposes in relation with a business activity


    You must:

    • Be registered nationally if your drone weights more than 1 kg
    • Have a liability coverage up to 1million Euros 
    • Obtain special permission to operate outside mandatory limitations


    You must not:

    • Fly your drone outside your line of sight (BVLOS)
    • Fly over a group of people (12 persons)
    • Fly your drones more than 300m away from you
    • Fly 120m above ground level
    • Fly over urban areas
    • Fly closer than 5km to an aerodrome
    • Fly within 30m of any person
    • Fly in civil or controlled airspace
    • Fly in restricted areas (prisons, military basis, etc.)
    • Fly over property unless authorised by the owner
